Wall Murals As Accents For Kitchen Wall Decor

Consider the following two scenarios:

Jackie lives in the suburbs and is a dedicated wife and football mother. She lives in a 4 bedroom colonial on a lovely tree-lined cul-de-sac. She has recently upgraded her kitchen with matching appliances in beautiful stainless steel. She also painted the walls a lovely earthy clay color with green undertones. Finally, her husband installed track lighting to add much needed brightness. Yet she wanted to add a little “UMPH” to her kitchen, something that is very unique to make it stand out.

Jason is a single young lawyer who lives on the top west side of Manhattan. He rent a small apartment with one bedroom. He lives on the 27th floor and has a doorman fair and desirable living arrangement for a young professional with an upward mobile career. He works long hours and when he has time to relax, he likes to entertain friends with dinner and cocktails. His little kitchen is functional but dated. Since he rent, he is limited in what he could do to add some pizazz to its little kitchen. Yet he wants to do something for the empty wall opposite the counter.

Although Jackie and Jason seem to have Polar opposite living arrangements and lifestyle demographics, they have one thing in common: a decorative dilemma in the kitchen! They have both options, and one that will work nicely for both the addition of a wall accent.

Mural accents are fun and add decorative interest to small spaces. They cheat the eye (Trompe de l’Oeil) by apparently adding three dimensions to a two-dimensional space. They are easy to apply and can be cleaned with mild cleaning on a soft sponge. They are also easy to remove and will therefore not damage the underlying wall (a precautionary word: Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application, since some murals are shell and stick while others need to be applied with glue paste). The fact that there are so many amazing choices is a safe sign that there is something for everyone here. Probably the best thing about the mural accents that they are affordable and can work within someone’s decorative budget.

Although the cost is not an important factor for Jackie, she really wants the best deal for his money. Her main concern is quality. On the other hand, Jason knows that he will not stay in this apartment, because he is planning to move to Paris in a few years. He will not spend a lot of money decorating.

Due to the unique, ease, functionality and affordability of murals, both scenarios have happy endings. Jackie chose a mural with a Tuscan view to add the end of her kitchen desk. It is an arched stone lined with a great view of the Tuscan hills.

Jason chose a faux cafe window painting and applied it to the wall opposite his kitchen desk. He is happy that it now actually seems as if he looks out on the street from his own cafe or French bistro. It has even reversed writing on the “glass”. Best of all, it means that his kitchen space seems bigger.

For unique wall design at a price that can’t be beat, consider the addition of a wall painting accent to your dining room!
